Nana Akufo-Addo
Nana Akufo-Addo is indeed an alumnus of the University of Ghana. He was born on March 29, 1944, in Accra, Ghana. He received his primary education in Accra, first attending the Government Boys School and then Rowe Road School.
In 1964, he began attending the University of Ghana, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in economics in 1967. After his studies in Ghana, Akufo-Addo returned to the U.K. to study law and was called to the bar in England (Middle Temple) in 1971 and in Ghana in 1975.
Peter Ala Adjetey
Peter Ala Adjetey is an alumnus of the University of Ghana. He was born on August 11, 1931, in Accra, Ghana. He received his basic education at St. Paul’s School at La, a suburb of Accra, and at Accra Bishop Boys’ School. His secondary education was at Accra Academy.
In 1954, he obtained the University of London’s intermediate Bachelor of Arts degree after studies at the University College of the Gold Coast (now the University of Ghana).
Peter Ala Adjetey (11 August 1931 – 15 July 2008) was the Speaker of the Parliament of Ghana from 2001 to 2005.
John Atta Mills
John Atta Mills an alumnus of the University of Ghana. He was born on July 21, 1944, in Tarkwa, Ghana. He completed his secondary education at the prestigious Achimota School, where he completed the Ordinary and Advanced-Level Certificates in 1961 and 1963 respectively.
He then proceeded to the University of Ghana, Legon, where he completed a Bachelor of Law degree, LLB and a professional law certificate in 1967.
John Mahama
John Mahama completed his basic education at Achimota School and then proceeded to Ghana Secondary School in Tamale. He received a bachelor’s degree in history in 1981 from the University of Ghana, Legon, where he also completed postgraduate studies in communication in 1986.
John Mahama had a distinguished career in law and politics. He served as President of Ghana from 24 July 2012 to 7 January 2017. He previously served as Vice President of Ghana from January 2009 to July 2012, and took office as president on 24 July 2012 following the death of his predecessor, John Evans Fiifi Attah Mills.
Ebenezer Oduro Owusu
He was born on December 11, 1960, in Tarkwa, Ghana. He completed his basic education at the Cocoa Research Institute of Ghana (CRIG) Primary School, Akim Tafo. He then proceeded to St Peter’s Secondary School, Nkwatia Kwahu for his Ordinary Level School Certificate.
He later did his advanced level at Ghana Secondary Technical School (GSTS), Takoradi. He gained admission to the University of Ghana to read BSc in Agriculture and graduated with a Second class Upper Division in 1987.
Mohamed Ibn Chamba
Mohamed Chamba holds degrees in political science from the University of Ghana, Legon (B.A. 1973) and Cornell University Ithaca, New York (M.A. 1977, PhD 1980). He also has a Juris Doctor law degree from Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio.
Patrick Kwateng Acheampong
Patrick Kwateng Acheampong born on March 25, 1951, is a proud graduate of the University of Ghana. His educational journey began at Adisadel College, where he completed his secondary education between 1962 and 1969 and earned his GCE O-level and A-level certificates. He then pursued higher education at the University of Ghana, earning a law degree in 1972.
His education didn’t stop there. He attended the Ghana Police College and received a Certificate in Police Duties in 1976. His outstanding performance there earned him the Sword of Honour as the Best Cadet Officer in his batch. In 1977, he further qualified as a barrister from the Ghana Law School.
George Kingsley Acquah
His early education was spread across several schools, including Half Assini Methodist School, Cape Coast Methodist School, Ashanti Bekwai Methodist School, Akim Oda Methodist School, Nkawkaw Methodist School, and Dunkwa-on-Offin Anglican School. He then proceeded to Adisadel College in Cape Coast, where he completed his secondary and sixth form (college) education from 1957 to 1963.
He pursued his undergraduate studies at the University of Ghana, Legon, from 1964 to 1967, earning a B.A (Hons) degree in Philosophy. He furthered his education at the same university and obtained an LL.B. (Hons) degree in Law in 1970.
Kwadwo Afari-Gyan
Kwadwo Afari-Gyan completed his secondary education at Achimota School and Adisadel College. He then pursued his higher education at the University of Ghana, earning a BA degree in Philosophy in 1967. He continued his studies at the same university and achieved an MA degree in African politics in 1969. His educational journey also took him to the United States, where he was awarded a Ph.D. in political science from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1974.
Mabel Agyemang née Banful
Mabel Agyemang née Banful, who was born in Ghana, is a proud graduate of the University of Ghana. Her educational journey began at Wesley Girls Senior High School in Cape Coast. She then pursued her higher education at the University of Ghana and furthered her studies at the Ghana School of Law (Professional Law Course).
In terms of her career, Mabel Agyemang has made significant contributions to the field of law and judiciary. She currently holds the position of Chief Justice of the Turks and Caicos Islands. With a judicial career that spans decades, Justice Agyemang has served in the judiciaries of Ghana, The Gambia, and Eswatini before assuming her current role in the Turks and Caicos Islands. Notably, she was also the first female Chief Justice of The Gambia.
